What is Ultrasonic Metal Welding ?
Ultrasonic metal joining is a method of transmitting ultrasonic vibrations (transverse vibrations) to metal. These vibrations remove the surface oxide film exposing the workpiece metal surface. Joining is then enabled through plastic deformation under pressure.
The process is completed with minimal thermal effect.
The ultrasonic metal unit consists of an ultrasonic generator that generates electrical energy, an oscillator that converts electrical energy into mechanical vibration, the head that applies pressure to the workpieces and provides the vibration energy and the jig (anvil) that holds the workpiece in place.
Nonferrous metals such as copper or aluminum can be joined to each other as well as other dissimilar metals such as copper and aluminum.
Ultrasonic Metal Welding Features
Applications for ultrasonic metal joining include joining dissimilar metals such as aluminum wires and copper terminals for harnesses used in electric vehicles, sealing vapor chambers used in smartphones and joining aluminum laminated foils in rechargeable batteries.
Nippon Avionics offers a full line of ultrasonic metal welding machines for research and experimental use as well as mass production.
Application examples
- Joining of aluminum wire harnesses and copper terminals
- Sealing of vaper chambers
- Compacting of copper harnesses
- Joining aluminum laminate foil for lithium-ion batteries
- Joining aluminum laminate foil and copper terminals
- Joining Corson copper hoop material
Ultrasonic Metal Welding Machine Products
Ultrasonic metal joining machines consist of an ultrasonic oscillator that generates high-frequency AC to produce electrical energy, an ultrasonic transducer that converts electrical energy into mechanical vibration and
an ultrasonic head that applies pressure to the workpiece and provides
ultrasonic vibration energy.
Nippon Avionics' ultrasonic metal joining machines use Avio’s proprietary ATHMOS (Automatic Tuning Hold Master Oscillator System) oscillation method, an automatic frequency-tracking technology, to achieve high-quality, stable bonding.
Our ultrasonic metal joining machines can handle a variety of workpieces and applications.
